Is The Scale Telling Lies? Different Ways To Track Measurements And Progress

When it comes to tracking your weight loss, it’s important to remember that the scale does not tell the whole story! 📉

While scales are a useful tool, they don’t measure everything – fat, muscle, bone, organs, you get the idea. Scale weight can depend on many different factors such as inflammation in the body, water retention caused by foods high in sodium and carbs, the time of day you are weighing in, where you are sitting in your menstrual cycle, etc. Scale weight will fluctuate daily and you may find it is not budging as much as you’d hoped.

Here are some alternate ways of taking your measurements and tracking your progress! 🙌
🔹 Measure yourself with a measuring tape. Choose a day and time during the week to take your measurements (you could simply measure your waist and thigh) and stick to it. Remember to record your measurements so you can track your progress!
🔹 Notice the way your clothes are fitting. Are clothes that used to be tight-fitting looser?
🔹 Take photos! 📸 When we are always looking at ourselves, it can be harder to see our own progress. If you take photos, you’ll be able to compare them over time and see how far you’ve come. Try to stick to the same time of the week, with similar clothes and lighting for accuracy
🔹 Have skin fold measurements taken to assess your estimated body fat percentage over time. This method is used depending on the person, but definitely, a useful one we consider in our programming
🔹 Take note of how you are feeling. Are you sleeping better? Do you have more energy throughout the day? Do you feel healthier? How you are feeling day to day is just as important as physical measurements 😌

Our approach is to use a combination of these methods to track and measure client progress. A standard protocol would be to check scale weight weekly along with fortnightly skin fold measurements and photos. Not only does this give us accurate data to measure success, but it also holds you accountable to your Nutrition and Training Plan.
